Updated July 26, 2010- The Guildford Athletic Club Executive members are very excited about the recent developments for our Hjorth Road Park. We would like to acknowledge the support from our municipal and federal governments which has enabled this project to get started. This is some of our taxpayer dollars coming back to our community to help benefit our kids. Please find below the details that have brought us to our current stage. We will continue to add information to this space as the development of the park continues. October 25, 2008 - Grand Opening of the 1st Artificial Turf Field for Hjorth Road Park with future planning for a field house and 2nd Artificial Field when funding allowed. Summer of 2009 - The City of Surrey submitted the Hjorth Road Project (field house and 2nd turf field) in the Federal Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program (RinC) for additional funding. October 3rd, 2009 - Start of the Guildford Athletic Club raffle to raise the needed funds to help pay for our portion of the field house construction. October 21st, 2009 - Confirmation of the Federal funding in the amount of $654,400.00 for the Hjorth Road Project. Combined with the City of Surrey allocated funds of $1.2 million, the field house contruction starts. (View the proposed field house plan here - Interior and Exterior). This funding will provide the main field house structure. Our Guildford Athletic Club raffle will be used to complete the field house. We will need to finish the interior space of the meeting room and storage room. November 22, 2009 - Draw date for the Guildford Athletic Club raffle. End of November 2009 - Construction of the Hjorth Road field house project awarded to CF Projects by the City of Surrey. Construction of the field house begins. December 2009 - The City of Surrey has awarded the 2nd turf field construction project to Cedar Crest Lands (BC) Ltd. January 4, 2010 - The construction of the 2nd turf field begin on the Hjorth All Weather field site. We will not be able to use the Hjorth Road AWF during this construction phase so our practice schedule for U9-U18 teams will undergo some changes. End of March 2010 - All civil work should be completed for the 2nd turf field and the field house structure should be near completion. Interior construction to being shortly thereafter. July-August 2010 - Hjorth Road Park Turf 2 will be finished. Hjorth Road field house meeting room and storage room work begins. Hjorth Road playground gets a facelift - new playground pieces were installed mid July. Work will include new benches and replacement of ground material with engineered wood fiber. You can view the current turf field design as well as look at the concept plan for the 2nd turf field (Summer 2010).Future Hjorth Road goals - Improvements to the existing clubhouse/concession facility.
