GAC is a soccer club dedicated to providing boys, girls and adults an opportunity to play organized soccer. Opportunities exist for players to play from a fun-filled non-competetive atmosphere to the highest level the sport can offer. The club promotes learning through the sport in a friendly environment. Technical Director - Scott Hyams
Scott Hyams has been with Guildford Athletic Club since the 2003 season. As a staff coach with the club, Scott has been influential in the development of many club programs including the U8 & U9 High Performance Program, the U-6 & U-7 Development Program and our hugely successful Spring Soccer Program. He received his CSA B Provincial certification in 2004 and CSA B National certification in 2013.
Scott has track record of success with both player and team development; since 2010 he has lead three different teams to five Provincial Championships (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015); a National Championship in 2013 and a National Final (Silver Medalists) in 2015. On top of team success Scott has produced dozens players for the BC Provincial Team Program and numerous players in the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program and Canadian Youth National Teams.
Assistant Technical Director - Mike Newton
Mike Newton has been with GAC for five years and during that time was promoted to Assistant T.D.; he completed his 'B' Provincial Certification in 2014 and his 'B' National Certification in 2015. Among other duties, Mike works closely with our U9 - U12 teams, the GAC Academies and works closely with the Surrey School District to create programming that reaches kids in the community.
Mike Newton also has a track record of success in player and team development. In recent years Mike has lead his SGU U16 Metro team to a Provincial Championship in 2014 and his U17 BCSPL team to a Provincial Cup Final in 2015. He has also promoted numerous players into the BC Soccer Premier League, BC Provincial Teams and Whitecaps Residency.
Staff Coach - Frazer Toms
Frazer Toms comes from professional playing backgroud in England, playing with both Charlton Athletic and Barnet FC. A career ending injury saw him transition to teaching Physical Education before immigrating to Canada in 2016. Frazer began working for GAC in August 2016; he retains several coaching licences from the English FA and is working on his Canadian licencing.
Frazer is the Head Coach of our SGU 2004 Boys team and works with teams and players across all levels of the club.
Staff Coach - Matt Deutsch
Matt Deutsch has been working for GAC since 2015. Matt started working mostly in our spring program but has transitioned to year-round involvement. He has an extensive sports background not just in soccer but also Hockey and Baseball.
Matt has worked extensively with our U6/U7 Spring Program and has also been an excellent resource supporting new coaches or teams that struggle to find a volunteer coach.
Staff Goalkeeping Coach - Michael Hicks
Michael Hicks has been with GAC and SGU as Head Goalkeeping Coach for three years.
