Game Day Guidelines

Dress Code & Equipment

  • Jersey tucked in; socks over calf; yellow jersey preferred.

  • Uniforms at Soccer Plus, Surrey Central Mall.

  • Flags, cards, wallets, and whistles available from JB.

Arrival & Conduct

  • Arrive 15–30 minutes before kickoff.

  • Use the whistle once to start, twice to stop, three times to end.

  • No ball play while officiating; stop moving before signals.

Assistant Referees
  • Stay in line with the second-last defender, not ahead or behind.

  • Follow the ball to the goal line when it passes the defender line.

  • Bring all required gear: flags, whistle, cards, data wallet.

  • Check nets before kickoff and report issues to the CR and home coach.

  • Sprint to the center referee after each half’s final whistle.

  • Keep the flag in the hand nearest the CR and maintain eye contact on stoppages.

  • Stop, look, and after two seconds raise the flag for fouls or offsides.

Center Referees
  • Conduct a pre-game chat with ARs to set expectations.

  • Stay wide and cross the center only when necessary and quickly.

  • Maintain strong posture, head up, shoulders back—without arrogance.

  • Make eye contact with ARs at stoppages and support their calls.

  • Ensure player discipline reports are clear and concise.

  • After red cards, document incidents thoroughly and text JB immediately if serious.

Single Officials
  • Verify team lists and ensure jersey numbers match players’ names.

  • Provide flags to managers; coordinate if both are on one sideline.

  • Confirm 9v9 teams on restraining line usage before the match.

  • Check nets for holes or gaps before kickoff.

  • Instruct club ARs to signal only when the ball is fully out of play.

  • Maintain fairness and manage the match flow confidently and calmly.

Lightning Safety (CRITICAL)
